Natural Remedies Ø Recently there has been increased interest in herbal and natural medicines and treatment. Some of these treatments can be very helpful and when applied properly may promote better overall health. There are also traditional, natural and organic medicines that may pose a significant risk of side effects and toxicity. Just because something is natural does not mean it is safe. For example Pennyroyal oil is a potentially effective flea treatment. It can be found in “Natural” flea collars along with Eucalyptus oil. However use of these collars can cause severe liver damage, pulmonary edema, abortion and death. Always consult a Veterinarian before using any product on your cat. If you suspect your pet may have been exposed to a harmful substance, but is not showing signs of illness, stay calm! Contact your local veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center hotline at (888) 426-4435 first.
